January Event - A Visit with Friars!

This January - Lesser Brothers: A Story of Pilgrimage "The real St. Francis"
The Frassati Society of Young Adult Catholics is proud to announce our January event and special guests – Franciscan Friars of St. John the Baptist Province. Read about this exciting event and scroll down to submit a question to the brothers for a future online news article prior to the event.

Mark your calendar before making any other plans on Saturday, January 16, because you will not want to miss a field trip to Muncie, Ind. for an exciting day and presentation by Franciscan friars. Brothers of St. John the Baptist Province are making a special visit with Frassati young adults for an evening all about the real St. Francis of Assisi … and who better to share life stories of such a holy man from the 13th century, than those who are living a similar life today through vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

This fraternity of brothers, who strive to find God in a communal life, are making headlines. During the heat of this past summer, the friars traveled more than 300 miles by foot, taking nothing with them, on a pilgrimage to the nation’s capitol. It’s not every day you see men in brown habits walking along side the road and speaking with anyone who approached them, including Chik-fil-a cows. Their pilgrimage was witnessed and shared by many including the Washington Post. With a little bit of charity and enormous amount of trust in God … they completed their journey.

But don’t think you’ll hear all about their vocation and St. Francis’ life here, because remember, you have plans for Saturday, January 16 – a Frassati trip to Muncie for Mass, dinner and a visit with our brothers in Christ.

In religion and spirituality,

In religion and spirituality, a pilgrimage is a long journey or search of great moral significance. Sometimes, it is a journey to a shrine of importance to a person's beliefs and faith. Members of many major religions participate in pilgrimages. A person who makes such a journey is called a pilgrim. Buddhism offers four sites of pilgrimage: the Buddha's birthplace at Lumbini, the site where he attained Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, where he first preached at Sarnath, and where he achieved Parinirvana at Kusinagara. The Holy Land acts as a focal point for the pilgrimages of the Abrahamic religions such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá'í Faith. In the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, the visitation of certain ancient cult-centers was repressed in the 7th century BCE, when worship was restricted to the LORD at the temple in Jerusalem.
